VESTIGES
Change is a constant when raising children, and there is no more significant change than when a child leaves home for the first time.
For me, that moment repeated three times the summer before my children left for college. Those summers have become a patchwork memory of emotions and moments that often collide against themselves yet fuel my hopes for the future.
Using scenes at the beach as the vehicle, Vestiges is my attempt to deconstruct those memories and emotions. By capturing spontaneous, personal moments while stripping away pieces of their context the meaning of the moment is altered.
Those omissions give space to the interaction. What came before or after is questioned.
What is left is a multi-layered sense to each interaction, allowing for moments of serenity combined with subtle details of inherent awkwardness, eccentric behavior, and humoristic elements.
